Grocery Delivery in Kigali: The 2026 Guide to Same-Day Shopping in Rwanda
How to get fresh groceries delivered to your door in Kigali same-day. Prices, payment methods (MTN MoMo, Airtel Money, card, cash), trusted stores and tips for first-time online shoppers in Rwanda.
Ordering groceries online in Kigali used to mean calling a corner shop and hoping someone had time to bring the bag over. In 2026 it's easier than ordering takeout — and the prices in many cases are lower than walking into the supermarket yourself. Here's how same-day grocery delivery actually works in Rwanda, and how to do it well on your first try.
What you can actually get delivered in Kigali
The catch with grocery delivery anywhere in the world is fresh produce. Tomatoes that look beautiful in a photo arrive bruised, the milk has 24 hours of shelf life left, the bread is from yesterday. The platforms that work are the ones that move fast enough that none of that happens. In Kigali today the categories that deliver well same-day are:
- Fresh produce — tomatoes, onions, Irish potatoes (kinigi), avocados, leafy greens, fruit. These move fast so quality stays high.
- Dairy & eggs — Inyange milk, Imena yogurt and ice cream, eggs, butter, cheese. Cold-chain works because riders are on the road for 30–60 minutes max.
- Meat & fish — chicken, beef, goat, tilapia. Same-day cuts from local butchers.
- Pantry staples — rice, sugar, flour, oil, beans, pasta, instant coffee, tea bags. The boring backbone of any grocery order.
- Drinks — bottled water (JIBU, Kivu), juice, soda, Skol and Primus beer.
- Household essentials — soap, detergent, tissue, cleaning supplies, baby formula, nappies.
- Prepared meals— when you don't want to cook: jollof, isombe, shawarma, burgers, pizza, cooked chicken.

How fast same-day really is
"Same-day" can mean anything from 20 minutes to "by the end of the day." In Kigali the realistic windows are:
- Quick orders (under 2 hours) — fresh produce, drinks, and prepared meals from a store close to your address. This is the default on Isokko if you order before 5pm.
- Same-day (before 7pm) — bulk pantry orders, anything that needs to be gathered from multiple stores.
- Next-morning (early) — orders placed after 8pm or for less-stocked items. Free time-window choice at checkout.
Paying for groceries online in Rwanda
Five payment methods cover everyone in Rwanda today — and one of them is exclusive to Isokko: we're the only food & drink and shopping app in the country that accepts Apple Pay.
- MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) — instant, no card needed. You enter your number, approve the PIN prompt on your phone, and the order is paid. The cleanest way to pay if you live in Rwanda.
- Airtel Money— works the same way as MoMo. Just slower because the provider's confirmation can take a minute longer.
- Apple Pay— tap the Apple Pay button, confirm with Face ID or Touch ID, done. Isokko is currently the only food & drink and shopping app in Rwanda offering this. Works on iPhone, iPad and on Mac with Safari.
- Visa / Mastercard— Stripe-backed. Useful if you're visiting Kigali and don't have a local mobile-money account.
- Cash on delivery — pay the rider when they hand over the bag. Good for first-time orders when you want to see the goods first.
Isokko is also the only platform in Rwanda with a working web AND mobile app for ordering food, groceries, and retail items: open app.isokko.com on a laptop or grab the iOS or Android app — same cart, same orders, same wallet across all of them.
How MoMo checkout actually works
You enter the phone number tied to your MoMo wallet (07x or 078, format doesn't matter), confirm the amount, and a Mobile Money PIN prompt pops up on your phone. Type the PIN. The order moves from "Pending" to "Paid" the moment MTN confirms. No card, no OTP, no app switch.

Six tips for ordering groceries online in Kigali
- Order before 10 pmif you want delivery the same evening. After 10 pm most orders move to the next morning, which is fine — but plan ahead if you need ingredients for tonight's dinner.
- Save your address with a landmark. Riders in Kigali navigate by landmarks ("past the second roundabout, behind the green gate") more than house numbers. Spend 30 seconds writing a good description once and every future delivery is easier.
- Combine your week's shop in one order. Delivery is per-order so it costs less in total to do one bigger trip than three small ones — and the rider takes the weight, not you.
- Use the search bar for the exact brand you want. "Inyange milk 1L" gets you what you mean. "Milk" gets you 30 results to wade through.
- Mark favorites for the items you reorder weekly. A favorites list rebuilds your normal weekly shop in 30 seconds.
- Check the promo banner on the home screen before you check out. Active discount codes apply automatically — no need to type anything.
