Same-Day Delivery in Rwanda: What's Possible Today (and What Isn't)

Five years ago, "same-day" in Rwanda mostly meant "before the shop closes if you call the owner directly." In 2026 it's a real product category - the right items, ordered from the right place at the right time of day, will be at your gate inside the hour. Here's what actually works today.

Where same-day delivery is available right now

Real same-day coverage in Rwanda today is concentrated in Kigali. Every district in the city - Gasabo, Kicukiro, Nyarugenge - has rider coverage from morning to late evening. Routes through Kimironko, Nyamirambo, Remera, Kimihurura, Kacyiru, Kibagabaga, Gisozi, Kibagabaga, Nyamirambo, and the city center run all day.

How fast same-day really is

Counting from the moment you tap Checkout to the moment the rider hands over the bag, here's the realistic distribution on Isokko:

• 30 to 75 minutes for most prepared meals and small grocery orders from a store close to your address. This is the majority case.
• 1 to 3 hours for bigger pantry orders, anything that needs to be picked from multiple stores, or rush-hour deliveries.
• Same-day evening for orders placed in the late afternoon for a larger basket. Almost everything ordered before 7 pm arrives the same day.
• Next morning if you order after 10 pm - we wake your order up first thing the next day.

What actually delivers same-day

1. Fresh groceries - produce, dairy, eggs, meat. Cold-chain stays cold because trips are short. Order from Kimironko Market or a partner supermarket and the bag arrives before the milk gets warm.
2. Restaurant meals - burgers, pizza, jollof, shawarma. Browse the food categories at lunch or dinner time and most kitchens are 30 minutes from your door.
3. Drinks - bottled water, soda, juice, beer, wine.
4. Household essentials - soap, detergent, tissue, diapers, formula.
5. Electronics & phone accessories - chargers, cables, cases. Bigger items (TVs, laptops) usually ship same-day if the store has stock.

What same-day delivery costs in Rwanda

Delivery is per-order based on distance from the store to your address and basket size. The exact figure shows on the cart page before you confirm checkout, so there are no surprises at the door.

A few partner stores offer free delivery over a basket threshold - the offer shows on the store profile and applies automatically at checkout.

Paying for it

MTN Mobile Money is the dominant rail in Rwanda and it works at checkout in two taps. Airtel Money, Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay (iOS) and cash on delivery are all supported - pick whatever you have on you.

Three small tricks that make same-day reliable

1. Save your address with a landmark. Rwandan riders navigate by landmarks ("past the second roundabout, behind the green gate") better than coordinates. One good description means every future delivery is faster.
2. Order before 7 pm for evening delivery. After 10 pm most orders move to the next morning, and that's usually fine - but plan ahead if you need ingredients for tonight's dinner.
3. Combine your week's shop in one order. Delivery is per-order, so one bigger weekly trip is cheaper in total than three small ones, and the rider takes the weight, not you.
